  1. Rabbeinu Ovadia MiBartenura authored a well known commentary on the Mishnah and was an Av Beit Din in Yerushalayim. The Radbaz extols his greatness and breadth of knowledge of all the works of the Rishonim. Though he passed away before the age of forty, in his lifetime, all the Rabbanim in Yerushalayim, Ashkenazim and Sephardim, were kefufim to him. His teachers were Ashkenazim[1]
  2. The Acharonim are unsure why the Bartenura often elucidates a Mishnah according to the initial understanding (Hava Amina) of the Gemara and not its conclusion (Maskana). Although Rashi does so as well, Rashi's commentary covers both the Mishnah and the Gemara, so explaining the Mishnah according to the initial perspective is appropriate.[2]
  3. He is drawn after the Rash in terms of understanding the Mishnah.[3]
